U.S. Patent No. 7,898,410

On Duty Personnel

There are two critical pieces of information that make up an agencies "resource pool" during an emergency. One is responding data and the other is on-duty data. These two data points are important because other than mutual aid resources, they equal the total of your agencies manpower resources during an incident. On-Duty data consists of those members that are on-duty, at what location, and in what position or event. This data can be used at any time; both during an incident or at any other time. Here's how it works.

For some agencies, on-duty means that the members are physically present at a station. For others it means that a group of members are on-duty or on-call and have to respond to the station should they be dispatched. Either way, the on-duty feature is flexible and can be used according to the needs of each individual agency and/or station or team.

Location and Position/Event data

Each agency can create their own location and position/event data to fit their needs. An example of a location could be the station that the members are at, or it could be a broad term such as In District or at Home. Position/Event examples are specific pieces of apparatus, Engine Crew, Medic Crew, A Shift, Standby, etc.

At the Station

Similar to responding data, on-duty data is valuable at the station during an incident in that one station or team has the ability to view another station or team's on-duty members and know what their resources are. Members can determine if sufficient resources are on-duty and responding and whether additional manpower should be requested.

In the Field

Mobile data terminals (MDTs) with broadband cards can be used in emergency and command apparatus to provide real-time member status in the field.

Tablets such as the Apple iPad or Motorola Zoom can also be used to display the FFRS application. (See Mobile Web App for smartphone application)

Commanders can preview the data to determine if sufficient resources are on-duty and whether additional manpower should be requested.

The On-Duty feature is an option that is included with the Firefighter Response System. For agencies that do not need this feature, it can be disabled.
